Kingstonian vs Enfield

Kingstonian's poor form in the Ryman Premier Division continued as they let a one goal lead slip into a 2-1 home defeat to Enfield

Enfield started the game the better team and almost took the lead a few minutes in, when one of their forwards got through on goal with 2 players in support but chose to shoot instead of square the ball and could only hit the post. Enfield were on top but weren't really creating any meaningful chances and with Kingstonian looking dangerous on the break, it looked like it might just be 'one of those nights' for Enfield. A few corners from Enfield upped the pressure on the K's, after Rob Tolfrey had rolled a flat ball out to get a new one, the ref correctly gave a corner, from which the pressure began. There was no end product for Enfield though and they were punished when Kingstonian scored with their first shot of the game, Matt Somner flicking the ball over a defender's head before sending a crashing volley into the top corner, a truly fantastic goal. Enfield seemed shocked by this goal and Kingstonian were on top for the last 10 minutes of the first half although they didn't score

To be fair Enfield came out onto the pitch for the second half looking much more up for it than the K's and equalised from a corner in the 52nd minutes after what looked like a mistake from Tolfrey in the Kingstonian goal. Kingstonian's long ball game just didn't seem to be breaking down the Enfield defence and this was evident in the lack of chances they created. Enfield continued to push and missed a great chance when 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper but the attacker put the ball wide, when really he should have scored. Enfield then deservedly took the lead after a good passing move and cross found Hope, who powerfully headed the ball past Tolfrey, who almost made a great save, but could not quite get enough on the ball to keep it out. Despite being behind Kingstonian still struggled to create and never really looked like equalising. In fact, Enfield could have added a third but Tolfrey made a good stop in another 1 on 1 situation.

The game as a whole was very enjoyable and a sure contender for our goal of the season competition arose. Thanks to Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson
